In case you missed it, the Sowing Food Sovereign Futures (SFSF) Youth Program was officially launched in October 2024, and we shared the exciting details in our November-December newsletter. This program is designed to inspire and empower youth to become leaders in food sovereignty through paid internships and microgrants for youth-led projects.
We were thrilled to welcome Terrance Scott from T’Sou-ke Nation as one of our Food Sovereignty Interns.
A message from Terrance:"I'm Terrance Scott, a T'Sou-ke Nation youth with a passion for nature and knowledge. I love learning about the land and sea from Elders and other experts, understanding its health, how to protect it, respect it, and also how it is being hurt. I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work with Naut'sa mawt's Sowing Food Sovereign Futures internship! It is such a privilege to be able to do this kind of work. I'm thrilled to learn about food sovereignty, and to implement techniques I'm taught into my own life and into my community as well for a more independent and sustainable future."
Microgrants Still Available! Are there youth in your community with a passion for food sovereignty? We still have microgrants of up to $2,500 available to support youth-led food sovereignty projects.
Potential project examples:
Youth Growing Gardens in Elders' Yards: Strengthening intergenerational connections while promoting health and well-being.
Elder & Youth Cooking Program: Sharing knowledge and skills through collaborative cooking sessions that celebrate traditional food practices.
Community Seedling Event: Bringing the community together to learn and prepare seedlings for personal or shared gardens, fostering knowledge and connection.
Connecting Elders and Youth through food and culture.
Let’s continue working together to empower the next generation of food sovereignty leaders!
